Machado De Assis, the Brazilian writer is considered the most important of Latin American literature of romanticism. He was born on June 21, 1839 in Rio de Janeiro. His father wanted him to study law and so he was sent to study in France. While there he began to write poetry and short stories which were published in magazines.
